Inter Milan defender Federico Dimarco has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a knee ligament injury during training on Monday.
The 26-year-old Italian international was playing in a friendly match against Benevento when he twisted his knee while attempting to tackle a player from the opposite team. He immediately left the field and was taken to hospital, where doctors confirmed that he had torn his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL).
Dimarco is currently recovering at home with the help of physiotherapy and will undergo further scans to assess the extent of his injury. The club has not yet announced any plans for his replacement or when he might be able to return to action.
This latest setback comes just two weeks after Dimarco suffered a broken nose in a match against Roma. He has been one of Inter's most consistent performers this season, featuring in all but four of their league games so far and contributing to several important victories for the club.
Dimarco is known for his defensive work and aerial ability, and his injury could have significant implications for Inter's defense as they look to secure a top-four finish in Serie A next season. It remains to be seen how long he will be out of action, but it is clear that his absence will be a blow to the team's chances of success in the coming months.
